WHERE IN THE COUNTRY ARE WE?

  • Bygdin Mountain Hotel is located in Innlandet county, 12 km north of Beitostølen, by FV51 which runs via Beitostølen and over the Valdresflye mountain range north towards Vågå.
  • The hotel is located at 1,065 meters above sea level on the high mountain by the lake Bygdin.

  • In wintertime from February until May the Gardli road block (8 km from the hotell. Between Bygdin and Beitostølen) is closed at night from 20:00 to 08:00
  • Calculate your driving time to arrive in Gardli before 20:00
  • Always check the weather and information about the road from Gardli to us.
  • When in doubt, call us on 61341400 to hear about road and weather conditions
  • If you arrive at the barrier after 20:00, you must call us in good time and let us know

Arriving here in Winter / Spring

  • PERIOD FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL, MAY

ACCESS WINTER / SPRING PERIOD FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL, MAY WINTER - BY CAR

  • Between February and April/May, the road is only open via Beitostølen, from the south via FV51 Fagernes and E16 towards Oslo - and Hønefoss and Bergen. It is closed to access from the north at the Maurvangen barrier, south of Bessheim Fjellstue.

  • Access options from the E6 from the north via Lillehammer -> Vingrom Fv250 -> Dokka Fv33 -> Bjørgo E16 -> Fagernes Fv51 -> Beitostølen.

Veien inn

  • In the period February - April, the road is only open to Bygdin during the day, 08:00 - 20:00. It is closed at night 20:00 - 08:00 with a barrier at Gardli, just north of Beitostølen, during this period.

  • Stay tuned to yr.no and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for road and traffic conditions on FV51 to Bygdin. Search for Gardli on the Norwegian Road Administration's map.

  • If you arrive later than 20:00 at Gardli bom, contact us for information about entering us.

  • From April, plowing of FV51 over Valdresflye between Bygdin and Maurvangen bom is planned. This is weather dependent.

  • The road may be closed at short notice during storms

Can't you reach the barrier at Gardli before 20:00?

Contact the hotel on tel. 61341400 well in advance, and we will arrange an opening at the barrier. If you already know this when booking your stay, let us know then. If there are more people arriving after 20:00, we collect more people at the barrier at different times

 

YOU CAN GET TO BYGDIN BY CAR, BUS, BOAT, BICYCLE,  Cross country Skies (preferably back country skies) or BY FOOT OVER THE MOUNTAINS

  • In summer you can reach us both from the north and from the south easily as the main roads are open.
  • In wintertime there is only access from south, via Beitostølen, which is 12 km from Bygdin.
  • The easiest way is to take your own car, but you can also get here by bus.
  • It the bus has it end-stop at Beitostølen, we can arrange transfer to the hotel for guests.

 

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING IN WINTERTIME?

Many of DNT's branchy trails lead to Bygdin.

  • From the west you can come from Eidsbugarden via Yksendalen or Torfinnsbu.
  • From the north over Valdresflye
  • From the east you can come from Liomseter and Skåbu via Haugseter.
  • From the south there are groomed trails from Beitostølen.
  • NB: BE CAREFUL, and FOLLOW THE NORWEGIAN MOUNTAIN CODE RULES - there can be very tough conditions outside the fixed trail network.

ACCESS SUMMER / AUTUMN JUNE, JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER SUMMER AND AUTUMN - BY CAR

  • The road is normally open around the clock both from the south and north. From the east, you can also get here by car via Jotunheimvegen, as from Skåbu and Vinstra. This is a dirt road that opens late in June, and is a toll road.

 

ATTENTION WHEN IT APPROACHES LATE AUTUMN

  • In case of storms, the road can be closed at short notice as October approaches The road is normally closed at the end of December/beginning of January.

 

EXTRAORDINARY CONDITIONS

  • IN STORM WEATHER, it may be necessary to close the barrier at Gardli at other times as well. The hotel will - depending on the weather conditions - help guests to or from the hotel.

  • For motorists who are going to park between the barriers - but are not staying at the hotel: If the weather conditions lead to the closure of the road, everyone who has parked inside Bygdin will be detained until the plowing crews have arrived, and the cars will be followed back down into pools. Contact point is the hotel.

  • Follow yr.no and the Norwegian Road Administration for traffic information about roads and driving conditions.

  

SUMMER AND AUTUMN - BY BUS JUNE, JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER

In the summer months, the Valdresekspressen runs from Oslo directly to Bygdin, and continues via Valdresflye to Gjendesheim, Lom and Leirvassbu. Several of the routes from Bygdin also correspond with Gjendebåten (to Gjendebu, and Memurubu for Besseggen).

 

OVERVIEW OF BUS ROUTES FROM JUNE TO SEPTEMBER:

  • en-tur.no - here you will find all timetables, also beyond these dates. En-tur is available in the APP for both Android and Ios.
  • The Valdresekspressen (Nor-way bus express) starts its summer route in June. You can get to Fagernes with the Valdresekspressen from Oslo, or the Øst-Vestekspressen from Bergen. Corresponding routes to/from Fagernes Skysstasjon on lines that do not run directly. The lines that apply to Valdres, you can find them at www.nor-way.no:
  • Line NW160 Oslo–Fagernes–Årdalstangen–(Sogndal) Line NW161 Oslo–Fagernes–Beitostølen–Gjendesheim–Lom–Leirvassbu(–Spiterstulen)
  • Line NW163 Oslo–Oslo Airport–Fagernes Line NW162 Lillehammer–Fagernes–Lærdal–Flåm–Voss–Bergen (East-West Express)

ACCESS BY BOAT M/B BITIHORN:

  • From late June, all of July and August, and first weekends in September
  • From Bygdin wharf and over the beautiful Bygdin lake you can take a boat to and from Torfinnsbu and Eidsbugarden. The length Bygdin - Eidsbugarden is 34 km, approx. 1 hour 45 minutes one way.
  • Great as a starting point for further trips in the mountains for mountain walkers, but if you live in Bygdin and want to take it easy, you can also just take the boat back and forth to Eidsbugarden and enjoy the nature around you. ARE YOU COMING ON FOOT OR BY CYCLE?

Bygdin is ideally located both as a starting point or destination for hiking in the mountains. If you search for Bygdin on the DNT and UT.no websites, you will find many trip suggestions for the area around us.

At our reception you will get good information about trips that suit you - long or short trips. You can cycle here via Mjølkevegen from Skåbu in Gudbrandsdalen What about walking here on foot from Bessheim in the north, we are in the middle of the DNT tour.
